Touch-Wall Interaction

The Walled City
The illustration is reflective of the arrangement of workspaces of craft practitioners in the markets of the Old City Jaipur. The Walled City is divided in 9 different sections, It was planned as an inviting trade and commerce city within a valley, as opposed to hilly terrain and military cities of the past. Its urban morphology reflected an interchange of ancient Hindu concepts with contemporary Mughal and Western ideas.

The structures on the main bazars and craft-based settlements were planned by the State, to maintain the grid-iron structure, ensuring continuity of the architecture, urban form and cultural character of the medieval city.with consistency of architecture, holding the distinct handmade crafts.

2024/03 - Newspapers @JDW

On the Event of Jaipur Design Week, a celebration of design as a practice, a community of designers we gathers every year at JK Lakshmipath University.

This time for the student work exhibition, we decided to present some of the student projects in the context of social change, represented in the format of a newspaper while also utilizing it’s identity. This approach allows us to creatively and effectively package the concerning nature of the context of work for these selected projects, with enough space for discussing the necessary details of each project.

2024/01 - A Critical Inquiry

A Critical & Speculative Design Project
To enable an inquiry around possible social, cultural and political implications in context of climate displaced people forced who are forced to migrate to a foreign nation and land.
A Team Project

A two week project
Mentor : Dhruv Saxena

This is a critical inquiry from a speculative standpoint.
Today is , this speculation is of year 2040

Tuvalu
In the azure expanse of the Pacific, the tiny nation of Tuvalu faces an existential crisis as rising sea levels encroach upon its shores. But Tuvalu is not alone. From the Maldives to Kiribati, and beyond, nations are grappling with the devastating effects of climate change-induced sea-level rise. As the waters rise, homes are lost, cultures are threatened, and entire nations teeter on the brink of disappearance.

Studying the situation of Tuvalu, we speculated a future scenario (~2024) where this effect will be faced by other small island nations, where the genuine need of land for the displaced people will increase.

How should nations globally counter this situation?

This project concludes with an artifact from the future that attempts to manifest the situation of larger nations forming migration agreements with smaller island nations, consequently being the hosting nations.

While reading this project one must question what constitutes a citizen, a family, a community, a society and a nation?
Can one group of people be the same without the component of history, collective identity, shared beliefs or familiarity?

Relocation
To represent the situation of relocation of the climate displaced people, we have designed a hypothetical letter sent by government of the hosting nation(Auria) to displaced people of the dissipating island nation(Haya). The conversation of the letter is an attempt  to infuse political stances of government.

Within the letter one should look at the use of words, and try to imagine the intent with which they are guaranteed, the overall tone of letter, systematic overtaking and ignored accountability through the use of language.

Looking at the letter from the lens of identifying disguise allows for speculating while focusing at the possible political benefits seen as transaction, through relocation of people and colonization over language by the hosting nation through this situation.

Disguise in the Letter

“Language”
What is the relation of cross cultural fluency and a common language? What happens when a common language is the only option to function?
“Display of Culture”
When there is a contrasting difference in majority and minority of a cultural population, or when there is a display of one culture the need/vacuum created for the other culture to be displayed or discussed can cause in upsetting attitude and social arguments.

“Relocation”
The friction of adapting into a new society or business if prolonged may result into aversive attitudes. What are the possible conditions which does not allow easy adaptation?
“Placement”Placement into an unfamiliar culture with a baggage of history and individuality, Where and how does it affects or limits the individual? What are the other conditions that depends on placements?

Employment of Rhetoric in the letter

Ethos:The writer establishes credibility by emphasising efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability, positioning themselves as responsible actors in addressing climate change, established with the opening statement “The consequences of that greedy human.”

Logos:
The letter includes logical arguments such as the need for cultural exchange, the benefits of sharing common forms of expression and language, while demanding colonisation over language disguised as cultural fluency.
Pathos:
There is a strong appeal to shared values and empathy throughout the letter, particularly in the call for coexistence and support.
